A 3-day honouring of the old ways
Vetrnætr opens the winter half of the old Norse year. A season of darkness, fate, prophecy and the unseen. The sources connect Winter Nights with feasting, sacrifice, divination and preparations for the year ahead. Many of the surviving traditions revolve around the Dísir and Freyr, but the landscape of Winter Nights is deeply Odinic. This is the season of seiðr, of wandering spirits, of the dead, of wisdom sought through sacrifice. Odin hangs upon the tree. Odin descends for knowledge. Odin walks between worlds. Winter is his territory.
When was Vetrnætr celebrated?
Unlike our modern calendar, the old Norse calendar followed both the sun and the moon. The year was divided into a summer half and a winter half, while the months followed the lunar cycle. This meant that the great seasonal feasts moved from year to year.
Vetrnætr is connected with the first full moon following the autumn equinox, placing the Winter Nights at the beginning of the winter half of the year.
The full moon of october 26th marks the Winter Nights of 2026.

Across Europe, the old traditions survived for centuries in stories, customs, folklore and seasonal celebrations. Much was lost, forgotten or pushed aside, yet the roots remain.
Vetrnætr is an opportunity to gather around those roots once again.
The intention of this gathering is to create a space where pagan spirituality can be explored openly, respectfully and without shame. A space where people can meet others walking similar paths. A space where ritual, mythology, ancestral traditions and seasonal practice can be approached as something living and meaningful.

This gathering is a collaboration between Norse Tradition, Re-Wild and Sagastad.
Norse Tradition works to preserve and communicate the Norse spiritual tradition through lectures, rituals, seasonal celebrations and study rooted in historical sources and academic research. Their work draws on a reconstructive approach, viewing Norse tradition within its wider Indo-European context while seeking to maintain it as a living tradition.
Sagastad provides a setting unlike any other. Built around the story of the Myklebust ship and the great ship burial discovered at Nordfjordeid, Sagastad brings us face to face with the archaeology, mythology and ritual world of the late Iron Age and Viking Age. The reconstructed Myklebust ship stands as a reminder that these traditions belong not only to books and museums, but to the landscape itself.
Re-Wild contributes its work with rewilding, the lunisolar calendar, Indo-European spirituality and the relationship between mythology, nature and lived spiritual practice. Together, these three perspectives create a gathering where scholarship, tradition, ritual and personal experience can meet.

Sagastad Viking Museum Nordfjordeid
Sagastad provides a setting unlike any other. Built around the story of the Myklebust ship and the great ship burial discovered at Nordfjordeid, Sagastad brings us face to face with the archaeology, mythology and ritual world of the late Iron Age and Viking Age.
Norse Tradition
Norse Tradition is a Norwegian non-profit organization working to promote and convey the rich Norse spiritual tradition. We regularly host lectures, private training and rituals, and retreats centered around seasonal celebrations. We work according to a reconstructive method based on Indo-European syncretism. This means that in order to better understand the Norse heritage and tradition, we see it in the light of its roots in the proto-Indo-European culture.
We do not practice historical reenactment, nor do we intend to invent a modern spiritual practice spiced with Norse words and symbols; we transmit a living tradition. All lectures and rites by Norse Tradition are founded on recognized academia or historical sources of Norse, Vedic, Anglo-Saxon, Greco-Roman, or other Indo-European origin. We are thus not innovators; what we teach and practice has ancient roots.
Some aspects have had to be adapted to a modern context, but these adaptations have been made in the light of their historical context, and we can point to an exact method by which they were made. By facilitating genuine, profound and personal experiences, we mean to be able to carry the force of the entire Norse tradition forward.
Anyone and everyone interested in learning about the traditions of the Norse is welcome at our events, regardless of cultural background, identity, creed etc. All we ask is that you approach the tradition and ceremonies respectfully. Norse Tradition is not a religious congregation, and we do not affiliate with any political ideology. We are committed to conveying the Norse spiritual tradition devoid of sectarian division or political motivations.

At RE WILD we follow the spiral of the year, the solstices and equinoxes, the dance of the moon, and the old Nordic and Celtic calendar. We offer a guiding hand on your way back to your place in nature, your re-wilding journey.
Following the road from our ancient Indo-European roots, we walk the path from yoga into deep connection with our own soil through European spirituality. Our approach is deeply animistic; we honour the nature beings, the old gods, and the universe that is within us and all. We work with ritual and ceremony, the sacred drum, and the secrets buried in our spine to free ourselves and come home.

About Alexandra
Alexandra is originally from France and is married to Henrik. She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and works as an astrologer and mythologist, with a particular focus on the spiritual role of the feminine. Alexandra’s primary interest lies in the wisdom of myths and in how we, in modern times, can rebuild a European spiritual tradition that can guide us both as individuals and as a society. Within Norse Tradition, Alexandra is responsible for scenography, design, rituals, and lectures.
About Henrik
Henrik Lysøe is a lecturer and ritual practitioner with Norse Tradition, and is married to Alexandra. He has contributed to the public debate on the consequences of the transition from Norse religion to Christianity and discussed this topic on Dagsnytt 18. He reads Old Norse and has translated a number of Old Norse source texts into both Norwegian and English. He is also actively involved in the reconstruction of the European pagan tradition.
In addition, Henrik has received initiation into Vajrayana Buddhism within the Gelugpa tradition of the Dalai Lama and studies directly under Panchen Otrul Rinpoche, the leading candidate for the position of Panchen Lama. Henrik teaches yoga and a variety of meditation techniques, and currently serves as the Executive Director of Holistisk Forbund.

Ellen is a teacher, guide, and facilitator with a deep love for mythology, song, nature, and the old stories of Europe.
Through RE WILD, she creates spaces rooted in the lunisolar rhythms of the year, Norse and Celtic pagan traditions, and the wider tapestry of Indo‑European spirituality.
Her work brings together ritual, song, storytelling, and connection to the living world.
Living between science and mystery, she has come to feel most at home in the borderlands, where old traditions still have something to teach us today.
FAQ
What's a blót / pagan ceremony?
"Ceremony brings the sacred into ordinary life. We navigate change and welcome new cycles. Performing ceremonies creates a bridge between the material world and the world of the unseen."
We will perform an accessible series of actions and mindfulness, but we will give great metaphorical meaning to these by performing them in a sacred circle. We will create a save container for ourselves and each other. By doing so we open ourselves up to acknowledge the reflextion of nature's cycles in ourself.
What language will be spoken?
The event will be held in English,
but we have Norwegian, French and Dutch available between us :).
What kind of food will we be eating?
Catering will be done by a local caterer from Nordfjordeid with a focus on local and seasonal food.
We happily adjust to any food restrictions or allergies you might have.
Make sure to let us know!
Are drinks included?
Coffee, thee and water is included all weekend.
We do ask you to bring your own drink of choice to the feast on saturdayevening.
What if I have never participated in this kind of pagan event before?
Everything suitable for newcomers.
We expect an open mind both from beginners and long-time practicioners.
